Our client, a Real Estate Development company, is seeking a Director of Construction, to join their New York City office. This position provides construction support to large scale condominium projects in the Greater New York and New Jersey area.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and direct pre-construction consultants and construction managers in budgeting, cost estimating, and scheduling

  • Develops work plans and manages construction staff and be responsible for overseeing performance of contractors and sub-contractor

  • Support project development team in accomplishing strategic development objective

  • Monitors contractors’ work for compliance with schedule, budget, quality, safety, and overall conformance with the contract documents

  • Continuously source new suppliers and contractors to help reduce cost and improve quality/turnaround of construction. Constantly recruit new contractors and vendor relationships through networking and interviews. Ensure contractors are properly registered prior to starting jobs.

  • Work with Purchasing and Architecture to coordinate purchasing and design. Ensure properties move efficiently from one department to another.

  • Reviews contract documents and assists with procurement, pre-bid conferences, and evaluations

  • Resolves field construction problems in coordination with engineering staff, third parties, and other agencies as necessary

  • Develops and implements a quality audit program, monitors contractor corrective actions, and ensures a quality project conforming to plans and specifications

  • Monitors claims, suggests ways to mitigate impacts, and develops workarounds

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or construction management; 10+ years leadership experience managing large-scale and complex construction projects  

  • Extensive experience with large scale residential development in the US

  • Proven experience with carrying project from design to completion

  • Knowledge of theory, principles, practices of engineering, and design-build project delivery methodology
